This building is known as the Moot Hall. It served as a gate house for
the castle complex. Most of that is now gone, except for the keep which
is now a City Jail museum of the "see how we tortured them" variety.
Next to it is the obligatory Edinburgh Woolen Mill.

Hexham Priory church, seen through the gate of the Moot Hall. This is the
market square during the week. When we came back Sunday morning they were
ringing the bells. The east end and the nave were apparently rebuilt in
the early 20th century. You can also see a nice Transit van, but that's
not really the point.

Our trip was made immeasurably easier by this bus, the AD122 (the year
Hadrian ordered the wall built -- cute). It stops at all the major Roman
sites along the course of the wall as well as the modern towns. We got
a three day pass, which was perfect. It was fairly well used, but there
was still a lot of cars around, especially at the big fort sites.
